Route Profitability System
Airline companies are generally equipped with powerful revenue and cargo systems capable of producing detailed revenue and cargo information. However, most of these airlines either do not have a system capable of reporting direct operating cost information in real time or use a standalone system that does not interface with the financial system in place.
Megabyte’s Route Profitability System (RPS) was designed and built specifically for the airline industry. Through RPS Airline companies will be able to capture operational flight information and convert it into financial information by integrating with the company’s financial system.
System Design
Although the RPS can be used as a standalone application, it was designed to interface with Oracle Applications and, to other financial systems with some customisations. For 100% compatibility it was developed with the same tools used to develop the Oracle suite and runs on the same database platform as Oracle Apps. RPS can also be configured to run on the same database instance as Oracle Applications. This implies less database administration and less effort to keep the two systems in sync.
RPS eliminates the need to duplicate and synchronise the data between systems. Data required by RPS readily available in Oracle Applications are not duplicated but read through a seamless interface between the two systems. Such data include suppliers, tax types, foreign currency exchange rates, and chart of accounts. For example changing the details of a supplier through the financial system will immediately be reflected in RPS. RPS also integrates with Oracle’s General Ledger and Accounts Payables repositories. Direct operating costs (DOCs) and flight statistics may be transferred to the financial system through transfer processes.
Although RPS was designed to complement Oracle Applications it can be customised to interface with other financial systems provided that the system runs on a relational database. The systems design is based on Client/Server architecture, and Megabyte is in the process of producing a web-based version of the system.
